Now, the State of New Hampshire is allowing in-law apartments, also known as ADU’s (accessory dwelling units), which now can be a free standing alone detached fully furnished home for full living allowing up to 900 sq ft. Some towns allow more square footage. These are allowed on your existing property and have no special requirements. All that is needed is an area for the footprint of this fully built home, this structure can be placed anywhere on the property, just meeting your setback from property lines. All that is needed is a building permit and septic design. They also allow separate driveway, water service, power and septic for ADU’s if needed.
